1. TECHNIQUES, TRAINING AND PRACTICE

Topics in this category include Asanas, Alignment, Hands-on Adjustments, Vinyasa Krama Theory of Krishnamacharya, Sequencing, Pranayamas, Kriyas, Mantra, Vedantic and Buddhist Meditation and other traditional yoga techniques. Emphasis will be on Vinyasa Yoga as taught by Krishnamacharya, the founder of Modern Yoga, whose pupils shaped Yoga in the West. Students will learn how to teach Vinyasa Style Classes with room for creative expression and spiritual exploration. There will be weekly group classes for trainees to refine their own practice as well as practice teaching and adjusting asanas.

2. ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY

Topics in this category include human musculoskeletal anatomy. Includes both the study of anatomy and physiology along with its application to yoga practice (benefits, contraindications, healthy movement patterns, etc.) Emphasis is placed on learning to identify body types, differences in bone shape, proportion and joint mobilities and how to safely and intelligently modify poses to suit the clients needs.. We will also cover Energy Anatomy which includes theory of the Chakras, Kundalini, Nadis and techniques for increasing the flow of prana in the body through internal practices such as pranayama, kriyas, meditation and kundalini yoga.

3. YOGA PHILOSOPHY, LIFESTYLE AND ETHICS FOR YOGA TEACHERS

In-depth study of yoga philosophies and traditional texts (Yoga Sutras and Upanishads). In-depth study of the 8 Limbs of Patanjali. Yoga Ethics for yoga teachers based on the lives of the modern Gurus who brought Yoga to the West and ultimately to the rest of the world-Yogananda, Sivananda, Vivekananda and much more. Understanding the value of teaching yoga as a service and being of service to others.

4. TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Teaching is a skill that must be developed through practice, this applies to asana practice as well as mantra or any other spiritual teachings. At Hawaii school of Yoga we train you to teach live classes under our apprenticeship program, wherein a trainee assists in teaching a real class with one of our Lead Trainers. In this module we discuss the art of effective communication and cuing by helping you develop a rich and precise yogic vocabulary as well as learning the art of adjustments that will refine and polish your students practice.

5. INDIAN CULTURE AND HUMANITIES

This category focuses on exploring the Spiritually rich culture of India, the motherland of Yoga. We will learn how Indian culture and religion shaped, developed and ultimately expresses Yoga as a lifestyle, through film studies, lectures and temple visits.
